1516 • Reinheitsgebot

The Purity Law

Bavaria restricted beer to barley, hops and water, protecting wheat for bakers and standardising brewing for four centuries.

1842 • Pilsner Urquell

The First Pale Lager

Josef Groll combined English pale malt kilning, soft Plzeň water and Saaz hops to brew the first golden lager, in newly affordable clear glassware.

1975 • Cascade Hops

American Craft Revival

Anchor Liberty Ale introduced dry hopping with Cascade, launching the citrus-forward American ale style that became the modern IPA.
